3-day Training “Field technicians – fiber optic networks”

Installers – fiber optic networks

I. THEORY (8 lessons)

  • How to work safely.
  • How we connect optical fibers.
  • Types of optical connectors.
  • Classification of optical fibers and cables. Fiber coding and standards. Optical cables – structure and types.
  • Optical splice closures and ODF – what is their role in the network?
  • Fiber splicing.
  • Arc fusion splicer – operation and basic settings.
  • Maintenance of arc fusion splicer and high precision cleaver – most frequent problems.

II. HANDS-ON EXERCISE (15 lessons)

  • Tools used in installation and construction.
  • Splicing of optical fibers. Work optimization techniques and good practices.
  • Installation of an optical cable in ODF. Arranging of tubes, pigtails, and fiber .
  • Installation of an optical cable in a wall box. Arranging of fibers, tubes, and splitters. Preparation of subscriber (FTTH) cable.
  • Installing an optical cable in an optical splice closure. Installing the loose tubes in the splice trays. Techniques for preparation of heat shrinkable tubes on cable ports.
  • Arrangement of optical fibers in the splice trays.
  • Performing mid-span access of optical cable and loose tubes. Peculiarities in preparation.
